Look up the statistics on KKK membership. Look up the stats on anti-semitic hate crimes. There are LOTS of reprehensible people and you need to recognize that.

That is not lots in a national context.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Tue May 22, 2018 1:29 am Look up the statistics on KKK membership. Look up the stats on anti-semitic hate crimes. There are LOTS of reprehensible people and you need to recognize that.

Re: Rich People are Evil
I wouldn't call them evil. Out of touch with the lower classes, and with a higher breeding potential for sociopathic tendencies and lack of empathy maybe. When you want for nothing, you can get a bit arrogant or elitist.

The SPLC estimates that there are between 5 and 8 thousand KKK members, split between dozens of unaffiliated and often warring sects. There are ~325 million people in the US. That means that we're looking at ~0.002% of the US population belonging to the KKK.
They're not exactly a power player.
The ADL puts out a report every year on anti-semitism. In 2017, they recorded 1,015 cases of harassment, 952 cases of vandalism, and 19 assaults. Now, obviously, these numbers are too high, in the sense that anything above 0 is too high, but there are ~5.5 million Jews in the US. With a total number of antisemitic incidents in 2017 coming in at 1,986, that means an individual has ~.036% chance of being a victim of one of these incidents.Look up the stats on anti-semitic hate crimes. There are LOTS of reprehensible people and you need to recognize that.
There are reprehensible people in the world, but not as many as you might think. At least, here in the US.

Care to back up that claim of their "breeding potential"?

That describes the current leading press minus the higher breeding potential.

Simple. When you want for nothing, you take it for granted, and depending on how you're raised, can be snobbish towards people who have less. I do know many who are born into wealth and run their companies with the idea of ruthlessly acquiring profit in mind and see their workers as an expense rather than an asset are very like sociopaths.

This is sometimes true and sometimes results in people who spend their entire lives working for charitable organizations and to help others. There's a moment in Vampyr where the protagonist, a rich doctor, is called out by a trade unionist. She basically gives the "rich people are evil" speech and talks all about the societal ills.Yukaphile wrote: ↑Thu Jul 05, 2018 10:04 am Simple. Reid points out the only relief the people are getting right now is not from the democratically elected government (which is controlled by corporations yes) but the rich people donating large portions of their funds to charitable causes. Also, he's down there treating people for illness for free.
Which fit with "society is complicated" as a theme that I agree with.
