Restrictions like "nobody with a history of mental illness gets a gun" ought to help somewhat. Finding a way to defang hateful subcultures like the alt-right would be a big win, too.Beelzquill wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 11:01 pm I am pro second amendment, but I accept that it will make it easier for madmen to do horrible acts such as this. My heart sinks every time I see one of these attacks happen, but these attacks are done by others, not by myself, and not most of 100,000,000 gun owners in the U.S. I don't believe a "good guy with a gun" is some guarantee of safety though I do believe it might mitigate the damage these attacks cause. I don't have an answer to how to prevent this from happening.

And with your political bias showing, it only illustrates how that could be exploited and abused.

Re: Christchurch Mass Shooting
One thing we need to accept, as that quote I used shows, is that total security is impossible. And we all need to accept one basic fact here. WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE. Every single one of us on this forum. Unless Admiral X is like my other Libertarian friend who really thinks he's gonna live to be thousands of years old thanks to gene treatments and life extension drugs, but the point is that we need to accept that and decided if living at ALL costs is more important than our principles. Because as Chuck has said elsewhere, all costs may be too high. If someone was pointing a gun at me and demanding I "take" some poor girl against her will to videotape it (like some sick pornographers are known to do), I'd happily accept the bullet. We need to actually face up to our own mortality rather than cling to the illusion of the personal fable. NONE OF US ARE SAFE. No one on this planet. And our destiny is to die. It's only a question of how and when.
