And those under Hitler and Stalin who were just as savage and vicious and cruel.

Re: Japan needs babies.
@BridgeConsoleMasher I'm thinking of it in terms of justice. Some people commit such heinous evil, and they never pay for it in this life. And then they claim to feel sorry near the end of their lives. Oh, sure, maybe they saw the light, but I find that way too convenient, especially if they're hiding anonymously while confessing. It says to me they're scared of being arrested and judged. What I love about the justice system, in theory, is how it's supposed to be fair. And some acts, you cross the line and can't come back from. Not that redemption isn't impossible, but I think it's beyond what most people are willing to put in, especially people who cross the line this brazenly, multiple times. And that they were never judged for their sins in this life... what does that say about us? Especially when people blame their victims and excuse them? Especially since victim-blaming is built into us as a race. "Why weren't you strong enough to stop this?" and so on and so forth.

Re: Japan needs babies.
You would not believe how many people try and excuse them, or justify them. On both sides. I've seen people try and claim the Soviet soldiers were "traumatized," and some who are so anti-Soviet they legitimately feel that if Hitler had "kept his promise" and only invaded the USSR, things might have gone better. That ignores the realities on both sides. Seriously. You can't make this shit up. I've seen both, often in the same topic of discussion. People, man... people...
