The event's security has to be Secret Service because they are protecting the VP. The NRA's hands are tied in this matter. They didn't ban guns at the event, the Secret Service did.

The NRA has always banned guns at these events.
Mostly because they were afraid of an accidental shooting triggering a mass gunfight.

Interesting. I couldn't find any source for this being their concern.CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Tue May 01, 2018 3:05 pm The NRA has always banned guns at these events.

There's a lot of ass covering but this isn't a new thing. Also, it would kind of clash with the rhetoric that all a school shooting needs is an armed teacher.Darth Wedgius wrote: ↑Tue May 01, 2018 4:52 pmInteresting. It's the idea that people can never truly trust others, so they believe putting down "rules" will help when really it sends the wrong message

How did you find out that the NRA's intention was avoiding an accidental shooting triggering a mass gunfight?CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Tue May 01, 2018 7:41 pmThere's a lot of ass covering but this isn't a new thing. Re: NRA Ban's Guns at event for Pence's safety
Well the literal response was and is that the NRA orders the firing pins taken out of their guns on the show room floor but don't actually ban guns guns--they just tend to have their meetings in places that don't allow guns anyway.
Which starts to get a bit sideeyed the more the restrictions exist.
