Disney Research has created a jacket that lets you experience different sensations, such as a punch, a hug, or "snake moving across the body."
Just what we've always wanted, right? But hook that up to a timer and I think it's a good shot at getting someone out of bed in the morning.
They're thinking of it as part of a VR suite, with the proper goggles and sound system.

Disney's Force Jacket
Re: Disney's Force Jacket
It seems that it would be a bit noisy in its present state, but it's an interesting take on haptics. With the right sort of textiles, maybe some MEMS air valves, the concept can scale to high resolution. Calibration may be a bit of an issue.

I think there will be a lot of hype around this than it will die off quickly.

I wouldn't be surprised; I didn't even see anything suggesting Disney is planning to sell it. There were a lot of false starts to VR overall (e.g., the Virtual Boy), and VR itself remains a niche and might always be.Slash Gallagher wrote: ↑Sun May 06, 2018 8:17 am I think there will be a lot of hype around this than it will die off quickly.
