Seriously sickening. Do we really want to encourage pedophiles? But then, Trump probably raped that ten-year-old girl, so...

To play devil's advocate for a moment: Has the man been convicted? Because if he hasn't, he's still innocent, and mistreating someone for a crime that they haven't been found guilty of is wrong.

He was not convicted. In fact, he never even went to trial. The Statute of Limitations expired before he case could be heard, so as far as the state is concerned, he's innocent.

Now, that said, he probably shouldn't be in this job, and I suspect he won't be for long. But since he wasn't convicted, this wouldn't have shown up in a background check, so it's easy to imagine how he got through HR.

Aside from whether or not he should be punished for a crime he was not convicted of, he was suspended, and then removed:
Padron’s child pornography charges were “eventually” discovered by higher-ups and he was immediately suspended from his position. Padron was later axed entirely due to mass-layoffs in May 2017. Prior to his suspension and eventual firing, Padron worked at Southwest Key’s Casa Padre detention center as a case manager for unaccompanied immigrant children.

Yeah, I'm not getting the feeling that they intentionally hired a pedophile. More like they had no way of knowing he'd been caught with child porn since his case never went to trial, and that they fired him as soon as they found out about it. Just seems like an excuse to have moral outrage, like to blame Trump personally because of this oversight, or more like Trump personally hired this guy specifically because he knew this guy's history.

Regardless, it's just pathetic we still live in a world with sexual assault crimes in 2018. This is the 21st century. You'd think we'd have proper treatments to remove it from our genetic makeup, or to raise kids better so they don't do that by now. And the scary part is that this is actually an improvement... it was actually worse decades ago. Millions upon millions of sexual abuse crimes. At least forensics science is making it very hard to get away with it, but still... it's just sad people can't respect other people's boundaries and space, or still feel entitled to another person's body, or hurts an innocent child like that.

The devil already has enough fucking advocates. They knew about him, and they waited for the statute to expire, because they honestly prefer having a kid-diddler in power as a deterrent.

That seems somewhat illogical. Wouldn't they have to publicize it? Probably in Spanish, and maybe with billboards. Instead, they suspended him when it was found out.

I'm inclined to agree with Fuzzy here. When you consider the sheer scope of sexual abuse crimes, how many in the past got away with it, how many today get trivial sentences, and how it's still a very hard thing to fight, with those in power often turning a blind eye, this is just not good.
