A confession - I'm never voting again

No, seriously. After 2016, I've just given up. I didn't vote last year, I'm not voting in the midterms this year, and I'm not voting in 2020. It's just... meh. You can't save stupid people from themselves. So I won't even try.

Then I suggest unplugging from politics in general. Remaining as obviously passionate as you are about the subject without bothering to contribute to the process is a recipe for depression.

There's no shame in that, either. Politics was never supposed to be all-encompassing. For the vast bulk of us, politics is just a small slice of the pie that is life. And that's ok.

I remember once they were planning on imposing a new tax to help pay for a bus route through my area. I thought it was a good idea i sent my card in to register, went to the polls on election day and they told me i could not vote on that because i did not register in time, despite the fact that i grew up in this area.

The one time i actually found an issue i felt passionate enough about to actually go through the trouble of filling out the card, sending it in, driving a crossed the county to the place only to be told i can't vote anyway. It was the first and last time i ever tried to vote in my life and i have no plans to try again.

And whenever I pay my taxes I register to vote. Saves plenty of time.

I register whenever I change my address, and I usually vote by mail. IMO you shouldn't complain about the politics you don't participate in at the most basic level.

But if you don't want to vote, that's you doing you.

I'm ...annoyed.

I try to tolerate my anarchist friends who don't vote.

Not voting isn't getting out of the game, it's saying "pass" every turn and then wondering why you lost.

If voting didn't matter, then they wouldn't be trying to stop it with voter roll purges, gerrymandering, and voter ID laws.

It's not about saving stupid people from themselves. It's about saving every innocent person who will suffer under the forces of a greater evil.

That's OK, Yukaphile. I'll vote twice to make up for it.

I'm not an anarchist. Well, not completely. The idea of burning the system worries me because I know the consequences. During my low points, when I'm just fed up with humanity, the idea of burning down the system simply to shove into people's faces what animals we really are is tempting. But other than that, I just want things to improve, and I tried, and failed. The treatment of women by men and women in this world hurts so badly, and I tried to change it, and it didn't work. As I said, you can't save stupid people from themselves.

That's your decision. Me, I will vote as a matter of civic duty, even if I often tire of this silly and wicked game.
