Young Woman Still Jailed Indefinitely for Whistleblowing the Russian Election Meddling

Her name is Reality Winner, and she is being held indefinitely, without being allowed to present her case to a jury. All she did is leak evidence of Russian meddling in the election.

Uhhhh....she pleaded guilty to leaking a document labeled top secret by the NSA to a news organization. Legally, that's a pretty big no-no. I can respect her conviction in making sure the truth gets out, but part of doing the right thing even when its illegal is knowing that you may have to pay a price. In her case, a few years in prison.

Now, if you want to say that the government isn't very consistent in how it chooses to apply these laws, then I'm with you. That Patreous was allowed to walk is a disgrace. If you want to say that the government is amping up prosecutions sharply in comparison to the historical norm, then I'm with you, and it's worth looking at why. But Reality is not a 'political prisoner.' She broke a clearly defined law, has had her case heard by multiple appeals courts, and all of them have rejected her claims....probably because the evidence against her is damning.

She's now plead guilty, and will be sentenced. There's apparently a agreement with the prosecutor on that, but the judge will probably modify it to include time served or some such.

And she stayed here to face punishment, didn't she? Give her that much. Snowden fled to Russia like a fucking coward. And I bet you anything he had something to do with the election hacking.

If you can call Snowden a coward, then you have no idea what he did. I wish more Americans had his courage to do the right thing.

Also: he didn't flee to Russia. This is factually incorrect.

I think he left the US, passed through Hong Kong, and got stuck in Russia after his passport was cancelled.

I suspect he's over there helping them right now. Snowden is a traitor. He didn't have the courage to face trial.

I doubt he'd get a very fair trial, so I don't blame him. And I don't consider him to be the traitor. The NSA are the traitors who have betrayed and continue to betray the American people. This is something that should be of major concern, yet the press seems to care more about any little thing they can bash the President over than about the NSA spying on American citizens.

He exposed the government betrasing the Constitution and did not really harm anyone. I am fine with it.

Seriously? It doesn't bother you that he might have had a hand in the 2016 election hacking? And that he's probably over there right now betraying our secrets and helping Putin plot out more attacks against the West? Well, whatever. I, for one, am grateful that he can't ever go to an extradition country again. Let them have him.

I've seen no evidence that the election was "hacked," let alone that Snowden had anything to do with the 2016 election. I am truly confused how someone can reveal to you that your government is spying on you and thinks so little of your rights yet you end up hating the person who revealed this rather than the government agency that is still spying on you.
