Not trying to denigrate the article. But medical profession anymore is all about shortcuts.
Go in with allergy symptoms you get two commands before you even get looked at.
"Lose weight"
"Get rid of your pets."
Oh and that pair went to a 150lb retired school teacher. He denied having pets so they did the tests. When the results came back he admitted having a dog. Doctor was livid. But the results were not the animal.

Obesity isn't behavioral, just look at these obese people who ride the diet roller coaster. Please ignore the correlation between being on the diet and losing weight, and being off the diet and gaining weight.
Smoking was very much the correct metaphor. There is no magical amount of time not smoking that you can be on again off again. You have to quit FOREVER. When it comes to obesity, you have to be on a diet FOREVER. It's a live style change not some sort of mechanistic system where, if you lose x pounds you're good forever.

Heh, I wouldn't know being a guy, but my Mum once told me that if you're a woman and you go and see your doctor, the automatic question is ''when was your last period?'' the implication being that you are pregnant, menopausal or suffering from PMT and nothing else. I don't know how true that is but it sounds as though it probably is to me.

I don't see how that isn't behavioural though.
Surely you don't have to be on the diet forever (although maybe relative to what you were eating). You don't want to keep losing weight.

Obesity is totally an epidemic.
The obesity epidemic in America is only getting worse in some states, according to a new report out this week. No single state had its overall obesity rate decline in 2017, it found, while six states saw a increase.
...
The report found that, from 2015 to 2016, 39.6 percent of adults nationally met the criteria for obesity (meaning they had a body mass index of 30 or greater), the highest reported percentage yet. And according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the obesity rate stayed level or increased in every state in 2017.

I think the bigger issue is that they are still using BMI which is the laziest form of dietary science.
A weight to height ratio is not the only way to measure health, or even obesity. It ignores muscle, all professional athletes (even gymnasts and dancers) are obese because of the dense muscular tissue they have.
Taking weight, blood pressure, and numerous other factors over time, while making sure to eat a balanced diet and a consistent amount of exercise is the real concern. I sincerely doubt people who are obese to all outside observers have these behaviors and that is the cause of them being overweight, and is the cause of their poor health in the long run.
Stop eating shitty food. Eat fruit and salad. Stop sitting all the time. Go on a walk (I recommend audio books). It is not the lament configuration. You can solve it without unfathomable amounts of suffering.

HuffPo, as usual, takes a real problem (doctors are paid off by pharma conglomerates and our society is often cruel instead of helpful to overweight people), and says something blatantly stupid instead.
Don't read HuffPo. You want good left-leaning media, the closest you're going to get is Mother Jones or the Guardian. Maybe the Hill, but that's kinda centrist more than anything.

That's the mistaken understanding that causes a lot of dietary issues. Diets aren't about losing weight, they're about finding the proper diet (as in, the general menu of food you eat) which matches an appropriate calorie intake to your metabolism and exercise (calories out), while meeting all of your nutritional needs.
A proper diet is one which
maintains a healthy weight and level of nutrition.

I feel like you're ignoring the material presented because you dislike the source. Yeah they kinda suck sometimes, but you aren't engaging the actual studies and arguments put forth.
