Macron takes a tumble.

Post by LittleRaven »

33% approval rating? WOW. Even Trump beats that.
The French President was dubbed France’s first “manager-president” by French media after intimate details of his bizarre behaviour towards his government were published.

His approval ratings are now as low as beleaguered former leader Francois Hollande when he began to decend out of the Presidency, according to a poll that showed 33 percent of voters approave of his actions compared with 67 that do not.

In a flurry of embarrassing articles it was revealed the 40-year-old colour-codes his diary, sends 2am text messages to members of his parliament, handles all communication personally and interferes in minor matters to seize any breadcrumbs of power left in the wake of his interior minister’s resignation.
I must not understand French politics. Why is color coding your diary considered bad?

It's not just that. He's blasting people left and right, people are complaining about his labor law reforms, pension cutbacks, much of his cabinet members are resigning...

Besides that, I get the impression that the French are much happier with giving low approval ratings. Since approval polls were recorded, no American president dropped below 20%, and that's rarities like Nixon, Dubya, and Truman. Last year, the Hollande's approval dropped to 6%. Admittedly, that's exceptional, but does show a difference of thinking.

There's still three years to go. And even if the election was coming in the spring, the French approach to multi-party democracy means that a more or less centrist party like LaREM could probably still win even with those numbers.

Macron is the walking picture of a neoliberal elitist. People voted him in because the Socialists fractured (instead of just going back to being actual socialists like Labour did with Corbyn in Britain), the Conservatives are a joke, and the National Front are run by the far-right daughter of an actual Nazi sympathizer so only the REALLY desperate or nasty people voted for them.

Now that they can experience the actual policy, they're a lot less happy.
