"Misgendering," Arrests, and the UK

It was in the UK, not in the U.S., and there were allegations of more sustained harassment for the actual arrest (the headline is a little misleading). A sitcom writer was let off with a warning for "misgendering."

Let’s investigate!

Oh dear. It seems the woman she was “arrested” for “misgendering” has a standing injunction against the Mail due to an ongoing criminal harassment investigation.
In reading back to find that, it seems the ‘arrest’ was more ‘detained for questioning while her phone and laptop were seized as part of investigating the online harassment she was engaged in’.

I suppose I could take an hour or so and start digging to find receipts for the harassment itself, but on the other hand the matter is still with police so eh.
More to the point: how much do you have to harass someone ON THE INTERNET that actual officers of the law start investigating you? Last I looked the answer is “so rare we can’t even do studies”.
Then again it’s the Mail and they mentioned Mumsnet and professional transphobe Linehan so anyone savvy woulda know that from the start, buuuuut I don’t expect cis folk to know that bit.

Ahem. :)

And I did mention:
Sitcom writer Graham Linehan was given a verbal harassment warning by West Yorkshire Police after transgender activist Stephanie Hayden reported him for referring to her by her previous names and pronouns on Twitter.

Fair enough, I'm sorry for skimming your post. I should've read more carefully.

I'm still impressed that the Daily Fail was so bad that the cops went after them, though.

I think people have to understand what drives "transphobes."

It's comforting to think "oh, they are just afraid of things they don't understand," or "they are just bigots."

In reality, people feel like they are in front of David Warner, being told "they identify as five lights, you bigot!"

That's really the issue; we are being told that the old biological definition of sex is bigoted, and in every way, someone who produces sperm is as female as someone who produces ova. It's not even couched in terms of accommodation of someone's peculiarities, rather we are told that reproductive function must be completely divorced in our minds from gender/sex.

Okay then, how do you classify people with complete androgen insensitivity? They have functional, though internal, testicles but from birth are outwardly anatomically female.
