Minneapolis Reduced Psychological Testing for Police Prior to Justine Damond Shooting

Post by G-Man »

The tests seemed effective at weeding out psychologically unfit cops, but they had to go because they screened out a disproportionate number of minorities.

On July 15, 2017, Officer Mohamed Noor, hired under the new standards, shot and killed Justine Damond who had knocked on the window after calling to report a possible assault.

This is why I can't take the "cops are racist and evil" crowd seriously. In many cases, police shootings happen because cops are making split-second decisions, and we are not training or screening them well enough to get people who are capable and trained to make split-second decisions well. And political correctness is making it harder to screen people.

It's all subconscious, isn't it? How that filters into our perceptions of minorities and women. Don't get me wrong. I'm not a fan of political correctness, as I think it's propaganda on a whole new level, and has done huge damage in getting recognition for real victims, but... how people react subconsciously is a very real thing, that's been bred into us because of our general mainstream beliefs.
