The good news is that Apophis will pass so close you'll be able to see it without a telescope. That's also the bad news. The asteroid, as big as the Eiffel Tower and named after a villain in Stargate SG-1 (...I'm not totally kidding) is going to actually approach Earth closer than geosynchronous satellites, but is very unlikely to hit the Earth and we'd have to be very unlucky for that to happen.
Did I mention it'll be Friday the 13th?
I think this near miss will prod us into putting aside our differences and moving forward into the future, together. For almost a week, even.

Way I see it, either it'll miss and we live, or it'll hit and I die a few years earlier than I otherwise would have done. Makes no difference to me. I would rather not be an old man anyway.Darth Wedgius wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 10:17 pm The good news is that Apophis will pass so close you'll be able to see it without a telescope. If you leave a few interesting items behind, I can arrange something

Hey, if it did at least I wouldn't have to worry about paying back those student loans.

If it hits I likely won't have to sit through another election cycle, so plus.

Re: Apophis 2029 Encounter
Well if the asteroid does hit, my main concern is that I'm not within the vicinity of the impact that will end in my death or maybe even dislocation.
Also, fun fact; shooting stars are typically the size of a grain of sand and are seen ~50 miles away.

Eh, it's not without it's charms. Or at least I find it preferable to the alternative.

I don't mind not getting old and just staying young or at least relatively young for however long it pleases me. Or what alternative do you have in mind?LittleRaven wrote: ↑Mon May 06, 2019 6:16 amEh, it's not without it's charms. Or at least I find it preferable to the alternative.
