1) Its pointed out that there is a dam that has lowered the water levels.
2) The fact that it has data going back to the 1400s is pretty damning to the man made climate change argument. For the record I think its happening, but evidence like this proves that there is also a natural component.

As I say, i'm a believer in climate change - but you've got to admit that the continuous data on this rock is a thorn in the side of climate change being completely man made.

The climate change could be revealed, if the inscriptions were to become more regular. The one they quote from in the newspaper has roughly two inscriptions per century on average, until you get a spike starting in the 19th century and a plethora of inscriptions in the 20th. This can be frightening, until you realize that people started tempering not just with the air (via burning coal and co in ever increasing amounts), but also the river itself at around the same time (e.g. straightening the river, fortifying the river-bed in order to reduce erosion which results in less water being absorbed by the soil around it and so on and on), in order to improve it's usefulness as a water-street.

So, yeah. The hungerstones aren't necessarily evidence for climate-change. There's plenty of other evidence around though, like the lack of rain over several years, less snow during winter (if any) or, flat out, every year being the hottest year on record, consistently since quite a while now.

Didn't someone also mention a dam being built up river from it?
