My father's explanation is that this is all just how nature is progressing and humanity has absolutely no involvement in it. So shut the Hell up, you damn hippies, and let us start devastating Yellowstone and the Oregon Rainforests for oil already!

He is only half wrong. Climate change is both natural and man made.

I believe in anthropogenic climate change, but that doesn't mean that China isn't happy to take advantage of it. Selling carbon credits for coal-fired plants that they promise they were "planning to build" (and they really, really mean it) is a nice way to make money while not building a power plant, but does it actually help reduce greenhouse gases?

Meanwhile the U.S. has been reducing CO2 output overall for about a decade. We still have a long way to go, but if there was an easy solution to this we'd be spending more time arguing over milkshakes.
