Disney and China cozy up

Bad timing for Disney: probably not a good time to announce your new anti-fascist IP's partnership with China when they're cracking down on democracy and herding people into camps. https://radiichina.com/star-wars-web-novels-china/

Blizzard got flack for this and I hope the House of Mouse does too.

Isn't Star Wars also based on US Imperialism though?

Not sure what you mean.

Not just Disney but also rest of Hollywood as well as so called triple A game industry. See what Activision Blizzard did to that one Heartstone player who supported Hong Kong protests in fear of losing access to Chinese market. It has become so big market that corporations are willing to protect regime that is known from it's human rights violations including forcefully harvesting organs from political prisoners.

Not based on my understanding. I mean Empire and First Order are pretty much Space Nazis.

I thought Star Wars '78 and Return of the Jedi were inspired by American imperialism in particular. Not sure about RotJ but Star Wars was a protest of the Vietnam War.

Not to dismiss proper concerns that you're bringing up, but I just thought it shapes contexts a bit.

You can draw some parallels with the English empire as well when looking at the Empire. Yes though, First Order points a bit to Mussolini Fascism, I believe Lindsay Ellis' video was saying.

Yup.

It's not like China makes any secret about what it plans to do. Blizzard SHOULD be shamed for cozying up to this regime, and so should Disney.

1) Disney is a corporation. All it cares about is money. Your life is only a statistic on a form next to the words ''Spent $10 on The Avengers.'' You think then I am cynical? Well then, congratulations. You are what they affectionately call ''A Whale''.
ONLY with the threat of serious legal action from the government will they cease because only the government can get into a legitimate dick measuring contest with an entity like Disney. Boycotts and petitions don't do shit long term because the average citizen has an attention span of a week. Not to mention the fact that the people who shout loudest in any given situation are invariably the minority. Everyone else just wants to watch a film about superheroes or talking dogs and focus on their own problems.

2) The politics in the Original and Prequel trilogies can be inferred at best. They are mostly just fun adventure films based on mythological knights and old sci-fi serials. The Disney Trilogy on the other hand has feminism and other typically left wing politics deliberately written into it and is all the worse for it.

I think it's a good idea to get a boycott going before we get comfortable with phase 4. I'll check out Disney+, but that's just a monthly thing so we'll see how it goes.

If Phase 4 crashes and burns it'll be due to the fact that so many fan favourite characters are no longer in it and nothing else. The wider population does not care about China enough to sacrifice their entertainment. And you know what else? The hundreds of millions of dollars they'll get from Chinese audiences will make your boycott a mere blip on their balance sheet.

Perhaps China as a nation should stand up to their government's human rights violations if they want to get in on our Star Wars and Starcraft.
