More like him being pro-estabishment but we alredy knew he was that based on him not even trying to change system during his time in oval office.

http://nymag.com/intelligencer/2019/11/obama-addresses-democratic-elites-about-the-election.html
“Voters, including Democrats, are not driven by the same views that are reflected on certain left-leaning Twitter feeds, or the activist wing of our party,” he warned. “And that’s not a criticism to the activist wing — their job is to poke and prod and text and inspire and motivate. But the candidate’s job, whoever that ends up being, is to get elected.”
Absolutely disgusting. But it gets worse.
“I think it is important for candidates to push past what I was able to achieve as president. I wouldn’t run the same campaign today, in this environment, as I ran in 2008, in part because we made enough progress since 2008, of which I am very proud, that it moved what’s possible. So I don’t want people to just revert to what’s safe, I want them to push out and try more, alright? So we got the Affordable Care Act. It was a really good starter home, as I say,” he said. “I don’t want people just standing pat because we still have millions of people who are uninsured.”

Obama didn't go right, the left just went further left and left him behind. Welfare for illegal immigrants would have gotten a candidate laughed out of the auditorium once upon a time.

Well one of those statements are true.

Centrists (that is, people who evaluate their political options on a case-by-case basis and actively seek the political middle between the major parties) account for like 2-5% of the electorate.

You may be looking for the term *moderate*, which may be true but probably isn't. But breaking down the usage and applicability of the term in this context is a way bigger project than I wanna take on honestly.

I would say that in terms of being a moderate, he is very cognizant that his opposition in congress are a part of the system that you can't necessarily undermine in your personal agenda. And then there is his finance-centric approach to fiscal directives both domestic and internationally.

Otherwise it's really hard to ignore his domestic social policies and social heading with the nation. As a statesmen I would like a more publicized account of his foreign policy that gives a context appropriate reflection of him along with other presidents, but I'm not very alarmist of his action in the middle east.

tl:dr he has a lot of strongly right-wing stances and philosophical grounds on things, and this latest development is no surprise.

Oh, to be clear I have no problem calling Obama a centrist. He earned it.

But centrism in that sort of “finding the middle ground with Republicans” model is very much not a majority of the US electorate. People may prize civility, but they do not easily or frequently change their political leanings. They very much want to beat the “other side”, just also want to do so fairly (or “fairly” as the case may be).

When you're talking centrist, does this wiki echo with precision?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Democrats

I've just heard the words a lot and haven't been certain of precise meaning due to relative positions on matters.
