This is where all the "both sides are bad", what about the ALT LEFT rhetoric was always heading.

Also, apparently Canada has actual literal monuments to Nazi soldiers. They might have not have all the USA's problems but don't believe the hype.

well, it would still be wrong. whatever they did, they deserve the bare minimum of dignity all human beings deserve and someone defaced their memorial in an act of misanthropy.

The history of the unit honored by that monument, is a bit more complex than "they were Nazis". I would suggest reading into it, because there are a few layers to unravel before that verdict can be reached, if at all.

Outside of that, putting up a monument to a "Foreign Legion" Waffen-SS Unit on a ukrainian cemetary in Canda is kinda silly, for a number of reasons.

Okay yeah, but why is it there, you think?

Something concise I found:

"A military division formed in 1943, the Galician was made up of Ukrainians rallying against Soviet occupiers, whom Nazis were battling. Russian tweets about monuments to the Second World War fighters — “Nazi collaborators,” as the Russians describe them, or Ukrainian freedom fighters, as many in Canada’s Ukrainian community prefer to think of them — have rekindled a longstanding debate over how Ukrainian-Canadians should commemorate their forebears." — National Post

They're investigating it as a hate crime because they're following their legal definition of a hate crime instead of just doing whatever they feel like.

So, it's MEANT to be a monumant to anti-communist Ukranians?

I don't think anti-USSR is really anti communism. USSR was always known as an oppressive regime even when it was with the Allies.

Damn, took too long to edit my post:

Revision: So, it's MEANT to be a monumant to anti-Soviet Ukranians... who worked with the Reich as a 'necessary evil'? Reminds me of the Lienz Cossacks.

I'm not so sure it was a unilateral alliance as much as a scramble with one side equally unliked by the other two while those two weren't concerned with each other. Didn't USSR and Germany divy up European territory? Not like Hitler was gonna take all the countries. Then again, they're officially with the Nazi party before surrendering.

Ukraine was part of the USSR post-war, I'm fairly certain, so I'm not sure if this was like an Alamo thing what not.
