There are a few problems with the graph. The first is it creates the impression that moral superiority does nothing but rise among those with non-moderate political views by merging the Very and Extremely categories together into one large category. Using White people only increases the proportion of more radical members of the ideology within Conservatives/Liberals (in fact more radical liberals are over-represented in general). Whether this is systemic bias (i.e. this was from a massive survey specifically to test survey questions) or because White Liberals are more radical. Regardless, the more radical respondents were found to be more likely rate their position higher.

With errors like that (particularly the methodology), I think it's fair to say his conclusions might not be right. The stress about politics is another one, a comparative poll from 2012 would be enlightening (political related stress wasn't asked about in previous surveys, I imagine the effect could be reversed while Obama was president).

Emil Kierkegaard has no background in psychology and does have a history of doing badly thought out things (the OKCupid data scrape for example).

You know it's fascinating, I also find my politics aligns with neither American political party very closely. As I've said elsewhere, I'm probably closest to Libertarian Socialist, although I'd say with a strong pragmatic streak. And yet I rarely find myself needing to declare "I hate both sides!" As if there's ever only two sides to an issue.

And yet this is the third or fourth thread where I've seen you show up to declare that you fervently hate "both sides", but without really seeming to state any political opinion at all. If you hate two of the opposing opinions, guess what? Most people have at least two positions about an issue they don't like. Many could identify five, six, a dozen, two dozen different positions about an issue they don't like. It doesn't make you particularly special. So what do you actually support?

I think this is a good thread to have the discussion because it's just Darth requoting white supremacists again, and we're blowing up nothing of value.

Well I can say that I do lean slightly to the left as opposed to the right on issues but I am mostly on the center. On some issues I lean right and on some issues I lean left.

For example, abortion. I get women want the need to dictate what they can do to their body. I also get there is a baby/fetus in there as well. So I really on the fence about it. So I sort of sit in the middle. And I don't need to make up my mind about it either. It's not an issue that is clear cut.

But that's what I mean. Abortion is probably one of the simpler issues, but there's still way more than two positions you can take. The really the insidious thing the media does is that they do "side, other side, crackpot." Where if you don't take one of the two positions, you're automatically a crackpot.

It's essentially a brainwashing tool that cuts out any possible position besides "A, B, haven't made up my mind between A and B". Because anything else is "crackpot."
