I don't know where to start on the bad ideas here. If the article hadn't had a May 7th date I would call this extra dose of cynicism an April Fools joke. A compressed air bottle on your body at the time of impact. Air bags are brief cushions, so how much protection are they?

And obviously Subscription service safety gear?!

I really do not want to sound racist, but I can only nod to this being from Mexico. Because I think a US company even suggesting this would some how be sued for the idea.

I honestly can't blame you for thinking the company is Mexican, given the cited source inexplicably converts the currency to Pesos. Klim (the company that produces this vest), is based in Idaho.

I thought this was bad enough being in another country with different laws. But a US company with a subscription based safety device?
Excuse me, I need to rewatch Chucks review of Superman vs the Elite and his mentioning of things getting better. Because this is on top of all the other things happening in this country is why I think things are getting worse.

The most sense I can make out of it is that that's just the market for personal motorcycle safety. People might pay $400 and change for the vest, but they're not going to pay for what it would cost otherwise without the subscription.

They could accomplish the same thing by doing a loan program or lease program for it and repo in the event of nonpayment rather than this where it will almost certainly malfunction and read someone that's paying as not paying and get them killed.

I wouldn't trust it just for malfunction possibility, but nonpayment isn't really a factor according to the article.

Plus is repo that viable for what amounts to a general consumer good? I'm not really certain of the logistics surrounding it, but like even something as expensive as a laptop for instance would be kind of hard to repo.

Even if you do pay it, what happens if you happen to be out of service at the time? Motorcycles go up a lot of lonely roads, and the thing about the Internet of Things is that, much like an Xbox One, if a pay-to-play device isn't connected it might just think you're trying to cheat and cut you off.
