Youtube removes the dislike button

I for one am not surprised. Disney, Marvel, EA, Activision etc. all have reason to stop people from disliking their shitty trailers for their shitty products.
Only a fool would buy the idea that this is for mental health of creators. Why? Because the creators themselves CAN STILL SEE THE DISLIKE RATIO. This is about protecting the image of corporations and nothing more.
What a shitty company Youtube and Google is. And guess what? There is no alternative. What a wonderful world we live in.

I dunno there's still the whole brigading effect that displaying the dislike count promotes.

There are lots of alternatives. None of them attract as many people or as many videos.

Is YouTube also planning to remove the Likes display for users? Because we wouldn't want anyone abusing that, now would we...

YouTube did have the one through five star rating long ago. They switched over to just like or dislike.
I am surprised it took this long it took them this long to do this. There was a backlash of a certain trailer that came out five years ago that became the most disliked video in history.
YouTube could just give the video creators ranging from Joe Shmoe in his bedroom making cat videos to Marvel the option to include the like/dislike buttons. Just like they can remove the comment section.

Given that they're just getting rid of the dislike counter, I think the dislike votes are probably important to the algorithm.

If it's important then why remove it then? So basically now, either you like the video or you don't like it enough to give a like.

In a generous interpretation, I think the point is that one should either like or dislike a video entirely on your own opinion without being affected by the numbers. They do have an effect.
I'm not convinced this is the reasoning behind making the change, though. The brigading is probably part of it too, but I suspect there's more to it. Overall, it's likely a complicated situation.
