Canada bans lunar lawlessness

This is just one of those things that's fun to think about, even if it will be more of an issue for future generations.

Basically, as far as I can tell, since the US and Canada are working to create what is supposed to be mankind's first lunar base, they want Canadian and American law to apply there just as it would on Earth.

With how authoritarian and illiberal the Canadian government is, this is an unwelcome development.

Yeah they're so evil and oppressive, they let people squat in front of parliament and harass everyone in the downtown core by blasting their horns all night.

That's an unwillingness to be perceived as exercising power, it doesn't rule out illiberalism or authoritarianism.
It's possible to mistake tolerance for weakness. But it's also possible to mistake weakness for tolerance.

Given how most authoritarian states respond to dissent, labeling a democracy that allows public protest authoritarian is at best hyperbolic and at worst idiotic.

Sometimes cracking down on protest is more trouble than it's worth. A few societies have learned that it's more effective to just ignore it.

US and Canadian law seems pretty incompatible in many ways.

Well then it's a good thing this only applies to Canadian crew members, otherwise a contradiction may occur
