House passes same-sex marriage bill, with 47 Republicans and every Democrat voting in favor

Post by ProfessorDetective »

1.) To specify, this would make it so any marriage legally conducted in the USA has to be recognized through the entire USA, including same-sex AND interracial unions. You get married in DC, Alaska can't ignore it.

2.) This is 47 out of 211. Just to give some perspective.

3.) This still has to pass the Senate. Some are theorizing, that with many senators both doing damage control in swing states post-Roe and a few having LGBT+ kin who will likely disown themselves if said senetors show direct opposition to the bill, that this MIGHT actually pass.

Fingers crossed.

Quite a creative way to bypass any potential stumbling stones on the way to making interracial marriage invalid. Needs only one state to say: Nay! and noone can. Hm... Should the law of one state have a say in the legislature of a different state? Is that legal in the US? You'd think only federal law applies to all states, whereas state law only applies to the state. A case for the supreme court... Oh... Wait...

Disregard this post, I completely misunderstood what the OP was posting. [*]facepalm[*]

Needs only one state to say: Nay! and noone can.
What? This is the exact opposite of this: only one state could permit it, and it would have to be recognized everywhere.

I think the right establishment overall has conceded more or less to same sex marriage on a political level in favor of other conservative channels to stand guard.

It's saying a Republican senator went to his son's wedding, whom is gay. The title includes that he also voted against gay marriage.

Yep. Within a week of each other.

I read the comments in the Fox News report of it. They don't see it as hypocritical but someone who sticks to his beliefs and also supporting his son even if he doesn't approve.

The way I look at it. That's bullshit. Basically if this senator had his way he would basically make his son's marriage illegal, thereby not supporting his son.

I'm not really a Republican so I can't speak to any hypocrisy among his base. I also don't really expect politicians to believe in what they say really, they are representatives for people that vote for them. And really his son's wedding isn't really hard to understand him going to above policy.

Nah I am just talking about the conservatives who commented in the Fox News site.

Just taking it at face value that's all. We can assume he doesn't really care about same sex marriages but votes against it just to keep his job.
