$10,000 forgiven for each person so not a lot but better than nothing. Quite a bit short of the $50,000 other Dems have been calling for. It doesn't apply to me since I paid mine off already but at least it's a bit of the weight off young people's backs.

In the UK, no one pays back their student fees if they earn less than £25,375 a year. You can literally go your whole life without paying a penny.

Done through a farce of legal rationalization based on executive emergency powers for the COVID pandemic which the administration said was over in order to lift Title 42 immigration restrictions months ago. If challenged in court, this abuse of power will be struck down by any honest judge.
To the extent that there is student loan debt problem, also does nothing, and plans to do nothing about the perverse incentives and market distortions made by the student loan program that is causing it.
This is a naked raid of the federal treasury in order to bribe the core constituency of the Democratic Party. If implemented, it is stealing from the earnings of future generations.

The UK government living up to the idea of government being the fiction that everyone can live at everyone's else's expense.

As opposed to the US where you are are saddled with unpayable debt the rest of your life? And no paid sick leave or maternity leave guaranteed by law. And no socialised healthcare. And whole sectors having to work for tips due to low wages.
You guys have no idea just how shitty life is in the US for workers until you actually look at what Europe has compared to you.

To be honest though, I’m pretty sure we inherited that economic trait from your guys’ genes.

There was nothing to be inherited, the gains for labor in europe were won through class struggle.

I'm kind of vaguely hopeful on that front, what with the revived labor movement and such (United Steelworkers woot).

As they were anywhere. The colonists capital framework understandably carried a lot of British influence.
