Boris Johnson is gone (for now); this deeply unpopular lady is his replacement.

We'll see if there is a new election in the coming months and if Boris will be part of it.

She'd be a fool to call for a general election herself but she might be forced to if enough members of her own party are against her.

I say this as a lifelong Tory voter: There is no question that Labour is going to win the next election. The only question is the scale of that defeat. How well Labour do against the SNP will be the ultimate decider.

Fact is, the Tories have been shit in the last couple of years. There is no getting around it. I remain unconvinced that Corbyn would have been any better, but that's neither here nor there really. Boris Johnson fiddled whilst Rome burned and he paid the price. And the audacity of Truss in her acceptance speech to praise the man (complete with clapping!) when only a few months ago dozens of them resigned to get rid of him just shows how out of touch they are.

Unpopular with the population at large and unpopular with Tory MPs. She'll do well to last a year.

I can't see an election in the coming months, the Tories will lose heavily so why do it? There's always the argument "let Labour have the current mess to deal with" but no party ever willingly gives up power.

Someone who was unpopular enough with the MPs that they kicked him out? A PM has to command the confidence of their Parliamentary party, which Johnson doesn't. Under those circumstances it might even be possible that the Queen wouldn't appoint him PM.

If the Queen refused to appoint someone PM that would be a constitutional crisis.

A few MPs and even more Tory supporters have said they would rather have Boris than either Liz Truss or even Rishi Sunak. Even the ones who didn't like Boris think he's better than either of those two.

More to the point, they think that Boris is more likely to help them win the next election than Liz Truss is, as he got them their biggest electoral win in ages last time he was in. There is definitely a sense of unease and regret in the Tory party over this.

That's purely depending on how much worse the alternatives are, is it not?

In all honesty though, if nobody like Truss or Sunak, not the voters, not even party members, then why was she (s)elected? Were there no alternatives and they're the only ones who have anyone to vote for them at all? I'm reminded of the pirate court in Pirates of the Carribean, except these pirate kings and queens refuse to even vote for themselves, knowing how utterly terrible, incompetent and despicable they are...

Kinda rightfully so. Boris at least is mostly an elitist, spineless opportunist, who just wants to be in a position of power, while I feel Sunak and Truss have an agenda on top of that, largely consisting of Neo-Thatcherism, for lack of a better word. It's like in the past in India and Ireland. You have the choice between a buffoon who leads the country into a hunger-crisis and mass-starvation due to incompetence and negligence or a convinced racist who leads the country into the same with intent and pretending that it's only healing the national body by purging the inconsequential, poor masses.
