Well, an era reaches it's end, that much is true. I very much disagree, that she was the greatest woman in history though, vehemently so. Her own same-named ancestress has left a lot bigger mark on history for example, not to even think about women like Sappho, Ada Lovelace, Hedy Lamarr, Theodora and so many, many more.

Still, condolences for loosing such an iconic person.

I figured it was time when the family was traveling to her.
I got nothing to say here.

I've got this odd feeling in my gut that this is the beginning of the end of the royal family - at least in the Commonwealth. She is, in many ways, the last vestige of Empire.

People don't love the royals as much as they love her. King Charles the 3rd has a lot to prove.

Edit: Of course King Charles 1st was executed for treason so the track record isn't good.

Maybe. But what you have to understand is that Queen Elizabeth the 2nd is Britain. She is to us what Abe Lincoln, the Constitution and July the 4th is to the US. She is red telephone boxes, black taxis, Winston Churchill, Waterloo, the Spitfire.

And in these decades of huge change she was the constant. WW2, the fall of Empire, Cold War, Falklands, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the beginning and end of EU membership. She saw 15 prime ministers and 13 presidents. It is like losing a bit of Britain.

You can objectively measure out other women as being her equal perhaps, but in modern times? I'm not so sure.

See I don't feel she actually did much to shape any of these events. From my perspective, she was just along for the ride like basically everyone else, while being glorified to high heavens for waving at people.

Greatest current female political figure, sure. Greatest in history? *raises eyebrow*

Well, Elizabeth murdered countless Catholics for no reason, party to piracy, and helped the slave trade.

Elizabeth II opposed apartheid and actually did participate in the fight against the Nazis as support crew.

SOooooo...
