Real ID enforcement delayed again

Real ID enforcement delayed again

The program, which was to begin in May 2023, will now not go into effect until May 7, 2025.

If we can keep delaying it seventeen years on it can't be all that important.

New York switched over in 2017, so I'm honestly just bemused by the whole thing.
...for space is wide, and good friends are too few.

So, can I get a summary on what this even is? People screaming "MARK OF THE BEAST!" at passports, again?

It sets requirements on the ID that are accepted to enter a some federal facilities, nuclear power plants and federally regulated planes. If your state doesn't meet requirements, then you need to get some other ID to enter those places. Given the bill was passed 17 years ago, it's debatable how important any of this is.

Sounds like a "War on Terror"-era, performative, fig leaf. Good thing I prefer to not fly. Still need to get my passport card, though, just in case.
