I guess it's really important to keep kids isolated. This is draconian.

Overexposure at a young age carries a substantial risk of personality disorders such as low self-esteem, body issues, lack of social skills and internet addiction. It also opens them up to online harassment, grooming and gambling. And then there are all of those lovely brainwashing cults and echo chambers such as Andrew Tate that has made hating women cool again.

It isn't as simple as you are making out lol.

And btw, I grew up whilst we barely had AOL chatrooms let alone Facebook, Twitter, Tik Tok, Youtube etc. It is social media that has driven us indoors and isolated us from other people my dude, not the other way around. When I was a kid you pretty much had little else to do but to go outside with your mates. There was literally a warning that came on the TV at ten o'clock to remind your parents that they had kids.

So you disagree with society or the law-maker trying to make it hard for your children to be exposed to the worst the internet has to offer?

Wow, Facebook is the worst the internet has to offer?

You disagree with the assessment, that Facebook is among the worst you can encounter in the Internet?

I don't disagree with it, I am saying it not going to happen. I can disagree with cigarettes but acknowledge that there going to be little done to get rid of it.

1). I agree with Best. Short of fully disabling telecoms infrastructure, the kids (who probably know the technology better than the lawmakers) will find a way around the roadblocks. Same with Utah and their ban on pornography. Doesn't mean we need to let the scum of the Web swallow them up. Just that it's better to try and find the main breaker than it is to constantly shoo folks away from the outlets.

2). Let's be honest, though. These laws aren't actually meant to protect kids from monsters trying to hurt them. They're meant to isolate them from the wider world. Same with banning every book that even vaguely hints at things like the LGBT+. They cannot let young folks realize that there even ARE other ways to live beyond the ones that their Parents and their Priests lay down for them. Kids can't "become" (read: realize that they are and have always been) gay or trans or progressive if they never learn what those concepts are in the first place. They kept making the "wrong" choices, so now they won't HAVE a choice, at all.

One idea I hear was we need to do more to try to warm kids why it is bad to spend so much time in front of a screen, or teach them how to look for red flags when online like if someone selling snake oil or trying to push a toxic agenda down their throats.

Thank you for putting it more eloquently than I can.
