For Frell's Sake

"Nazi's are bad" is now a controversial statement.

I cannot say anything negative about Nazis without people crawling out of the woodwork to scream "WHAT ABOUT COMMUNISTS?"

If I knew who people in this forum were in real life, well then, I'd thank you for making it clear who can be trusted if an actual Fascist regime rises to power, and who will look the other way, who will say "Well, the law is the law", who will shrug off the responsibility and favor order over justice.

I am so gremplorking tired.

Next time someone pulls that on you, just throw this back at them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whataboutism It won't change their minds, they are part of the South Park generation; to them taking a side is extremism, even if you're only marginally involved. But at least they'll know you aren't an easy target.

Probably because people who aren't complete ideologues can see that the Nazis aren't the only problem, and that this is highlighted by the "punch a Nazi" crowd.

Being anti-Nazi isn't good enough, you have to be pro-liberal democracy. Respecting the rights of someone you hate is the polar opposite of Nazism

I haven't said Nazis are the only problem. I haven't said that being anti-Nazi is enough. I just miss an era when Wolfenstein wasn't a controversial video game.

Nazi geeks are the weirdest geeks. I mean, what must it be like, to grow up with all these horrible, monstrous, cancerous, beliefs while cheering on heroes like Indiana Jones and Captain America who oppose those very same beliefs to the very core of their being? How you reconcile your love of media where the things that make up your core philosophy makes you the bad guy in said media? It's like all the GamerGaters you see being pro-Nazi now (which is to say, most of them since that's where the modern Neo-Nazis have done most of their recruiting in the past few years). These people grew up playing Call of Duty! Just, how? How does that work? I can't even begin to fathom how someone could have that much cognitive dissonance and still be able to put their shoes on right. Nazis are second only to zombies in terms of "guilt free" targets in FPSs.

Seriously, though...is this true? I mean, I'm a HUGE gamer geek and I haven't seen anyone outside of Germany complain about Wolfenstein.

So...the Alt-Right, then? Well, sure. They're idiots. We've kind of established that. But they're always been here, and they're not very representative of the country as a whole. No major retailer is going to balk at selling Wolfenstein, but they WILL balk at selling Confederate flags.
