This is like the Dice Situation in The Last Jedi as Mass Effect suddenly starts making a big deal out of something that was never a big deal before and REALLY shouldn't be a big deal now. For those who have not played ME3 and don't mind spoilers allow me to explain, at the start of ME3 there is a kid that Shepard runs into a few times in the prologue of the game but at the end he is killed by the Reapers while trying to evacuate. Shepard is shown to be great effected by this which is fine, seeing a kid die is something that hit most people really hard... what's not as effective is what happens afterwords which is Shepard becoming OBSESSED WITH THIS BRAT TO THE POINT THAT HE NOT ONLY SHOWS UP IN SHEPARD'S DREAMS BUT WHEN THE CATALYST TAKES HIS FORM!!!
And then, regardless if you got all of life in your cycle killed or not THIS F#(K1ING BRAT SHOWS UP ASKING FOR ANOTHER STORY ABOUT "THE SHEPARD"! Seriously WHY is ME3 so obsessed with this brat who doesn't even have a name and can't even act that well. And keep in mind it's entirely possible for Shepard to pretty much everyone she or he has lost at this point and not only they never really see any of them (you only hear some of their voices during the idiotic dream sequences) but the fact that he will STILL show up when everyone from Shepard's Cycle is dead.
It also REALLY doesn't help that he ties into one of the biggest problems with ME3 which is how little control you have over Shepard. Regardless as to how you play Shepard, I mean REGARDLESS of how you play Shepard, you will have dreams of this kid. Even if you play Shepard as a heartless killer who will willingly kill people left right and center without a hint of remorse and that's including your own squad mates you will still have nightmares about this kid. If you are a Paragon who does your best to save everyone and is for the most part successful you will still have nightmares about a kid who's death isn't even SLIGHTLY your fault.
I HATE this kid because of this and honestly, removing him would have been to the game's benefit. In my Rewrite for ME3 I completely removed all traces of this brat and just replaced him with a shuttle pilot who you are allowed to treat as you see fit and when she dies Shepard's reaction will differ depending on how you interacted with her and while she is mentioned a few times and, again, Shepard is allowed to talk about her anyway you like you but you don't obsess over her death.
She died, there's nothing you can do about it, move on.
What makes this worse is just how badly written this kid is, JANKINS has more depth and development then this kid and that was a character who doesn't even make it all the way through the tutorial of the first game in the series. ARGH!!!

The kid represents the innocent people that Shepard fails to save. He's not actually a character, just an idea that for all of his or her heroics, Shepard is actually failing to protect the galaxy from the Reapers. The kid is dead from evacuation onward.
There's no character because it just represents their guilt.
It's not about them losing anyone specific. It's about them failing BILLIONS.

I think there's a lot that could have been done better and the Kid became EXTRA hated because he was also inexplicably the face of the Reaper's Master Control. I think making the final debate with Harbinger would have been better, personally, and the REFUSE option plays with that idea actually. However, I get what they were doing or at least trying to do with the kid.Thebestoftherest wrote: ↑Tue Jun 08, 2021 12:12 pm Wouldn't showing a room of people that are dead because shappard fail to aave them work better
For 2 games, Shepard has been a kind of juggernaut punching through immovable objects.
This is meant to be the WRATH OF KHAN moment for Shepard where they can't punch the Reapers down without serious losses.
Except there, those deaths were represented by Scotty's nephew and the audience GOT IT.
The thing is that a 5 second cameo of a kid isn't the best way to do it. I got the message much better when we boarded the Citadel for the final time and saw all the corpses, which told me. "Every single person Shepard saved on the Citadel before is dead. All of that effort has been rendered meaningless. Gift shop girl, Bailey, frigging Avina, Kelly, Conrad, and others are all dead."
