Upcoming Marvel titles: no elegance?

Post by Zatman »

So, is it just me or do a number of the upcoming MCU entries seem like cheap B-movie titles? I'm talking about:
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Thor: Love and Thunder
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Maybe Shang-Chi isn't as bad, but the rest certainly don't convey a gravitas that most previous titles had. Even movies that weren't so good like Age of Ultron or Thor: The Dark World, at least their titles tried. I certainly hope the films behind these titles are top quality, and I'm neither saying, nor concerned that they won't be, just that the titles all sound like something low-budget from the 80s.

My running theory is the effect Gaurdians of the Galaxy and Thor Ragnarok now has on Marvel. Those three movies managed to be borderline comedies mixed with serious drama and action.

Whereas the Captain America movies always had a serious tone.
I got nothing to say here.

Doctor Strange is taking the weird circus approach.

Shang-Chi is an exploitation throwback I think.

Thor Love and Thunder yeah seems to be doing a Conan motif, so 80's as a descriptor might be a bit modest.

Antman is going for a gender inclusive Tron.

They seem like volume titles for comic books, I have no issue believing that they will continue to deliver the same level of quality I have come to expect.

Titles exist only to differentiate them.

If they touch 1983 Young X-men and butcher Green Goblin, we are fudged beyond consumerism. We all knew Disney is being blind-loyal to the genuinely-scary decline of sanity of Capitalism.
Do not pity a Slave for the Slave-Lord, but hear the power of what Chaos can be.
All Beings bow before the children of he who bound their flesh by their words.
Fall and wail, all flesh, bone, soul,& power is a servant to Yun-man, the First Slave-Lord.

Funny how Hobgoblin was more prominent in the animated 90's cartoon.
