I have to admit this actually looks kinda interesting. It's the first time Toy Story has done something like this with the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command series but it's not something we see very often in general, that being the Story Within A Story being made into a full on story. Sure it DOES happen but it tends to be done more as a side dish that is put on the the Blu-Ray Extras not a fully TV Series or a Full Length Big Budget Motion Picture backed by the studio.
It does make sense as Toy Story really needs a break as they don't seem to really know where to take the series right but fans WANT more Toy Story so this is a good compromise, we get more TS by seeing the story that created Buzz.
The one possible downside is the film has to be a hit because seeing it as a In-Universe Movie that made Buzz in TS so popular if it's bad or or boring then we're going to be tilting out heads and asking, why did Buzz become so popular to warrant kids WANTING the toy?
Silly reason to want the movie to succeed? Yes but I'm weird by default so there.

I remember the first Buzz Lightyear movie being OK when I saw it as a teenager, never watched the TV series it was a pilot for though. Very meta in that "everybody knows the cliches of the kind of story they're in but still follow them for the sheer joy of it" way that felt pretty fresh in 2000 but is completely played out now.

I am a bit nostalgic for the old show.

Which is why I think they're going with a legit big budget film here.hammerofglass wrote: ↑Wed Oct 27, 2021 7:49 pm I remember the first Buzz Lightyear movie being OK when I saw it as a teenager, never watched the TV series it was a pilot for though. Some are wondering if we'll get a Woody movie. I think it will depend on the success of this movie. If it's a hit, they might do one for Woody.

I kinda liked the cartoon.
Personally I am optimistic on this.

I'm really wondering how they'll do Zurg. It looks so serious and grounded, not a place for a hammy theatrical Evil Emperor.

Yeah, basing the cartoon and toy line on a real person... weird, but okay. But when you go this far into realism it's really odd in retrospect that the cartoon, toys, and games went so hard into the pulp serial direction evoking Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon.hammerofglass wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 1:35 am I'm really wondering how they'll do Zurg. Maybe the trailer is just really off of the actual tone. We'll see.
