Good to know. I'll have to see if any local theatres are doing it.
Though... 27th.? I mean, I guess more people will go to the movies on the 27th. than the 25th., but won't everyone who cares have already seen the episode on the 25th.? Though I guess that this is aimed at dedicated fans, who will be happy to see it twice unless they absolutely hated it the first time around.
But good point about the lack of an established fan base for Discovery. Star Trek has one, of course, but in my experience, die-hard Trekkies are the most likely people to respond with some variation of "They changed it so it sucks!"
Would it really be that hard to get Star Trek Discovery into some theatres?

I find that going to the Fathom Events showings is less about seeing the episode itself as it is a shared group experience. Years ago there was a theatrical showing of TNG Best of Both Worlds to coincide with the Blu-ray box sets, and that theater was packed. Probably everyone there had seen the episodes before, could watch them any time, but sharing a chuckle with a couple hundred other people at Worf's line, "The Borg have neither honor nor courage. THAT is our greatest advantage." has its own added value.
I also went to the theatrical showing of Day of the Doctor a few years back, which was also a sold-out auditorium, but that had additional value in that it was a 3D showing. Made the painting in the episode pop out even more. People also showed up with their Fourth Doctor scarves and made a relatively festive atmosphere of it.

I remember that too. The scarves, and the way the audience just exploded during the 13 Doctors scene. And all the excited whispering when they first heard Tom Baker's voice.
Good times.
