I've finished Tanya, and it is great.

On the subject of Alternate History not existing before WWII. I again refer to Apocryphal Napoleon, from the first half of the 19th Century.

I never heard of that one, but one of the editions of If It Had Happened Otherwise (1931) included an essay previously published in 1907. Also: Winston Churchill.

I'm really not plugged into the anime community, so I'm kind of curious but afraid to ask - how many of these alternate histories come to terms with the reality of what Japan did across Asia through WWII? Or do they just kind of gloss it over?

Night Raid 1931 comes closest to being an admission of guilt, and it was banned from airing in Japan, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Joker Game just settles for depicting protagonists who are True Scotsmen spies that aren't directly caught up in the whole genocide thing.

The two in the OP are entirely about the European theater, no evidence Japan even exists.

Reading this again digging through my old posts sure is errie now. I'd been saying the Ukraine situation is more like WWI then WWII.

Not entirely sure Europe was that peaceful. Germany and Britain were in a naval arms race. Austria-Hungary as we know we're a powder keg waiting to go off considering it was a dual monarchy.

I think maybe there was that thought since Queen Victoria's brood was all over Europe. I guess don't discount that one weird cousin no one likes (Germany).

There was also a general sense the war woukd be short and glorious. As in high ranking 'genlemen' officers would gain glory and all that bullshit.
I got nothing to say here.
