Vangelis leaves us behind

Post by Madner Kami »

Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou, aka Vangelis died on 17th of May of 2022, due to heart-complications during a CoViD-19 treatment. Vangelis is the man who presented us with the soundtracks to movies like Alexander, 1492: The Conquest of Paradise, Antarctica and, probably most relevant to us here and me in particular, the soundtrack to the original Blade Runner, as well as a vast work of studio albums which are always worthy of listening to. I'll let Wikipedia speak, as it nicely encapsulates his vast and yet distinctive musical style:
The musical style of Vangelis is diverse; although he primarily used electronic music instruments, which characterize electronic music, his music has been described as a mixture of electronica, classical (his music was often symphonic), progressive rock, jazz (improvisations), ambient, avant-garde/experimental, and world. Vangelis is sometimes categorized as a new-age composer, a classification others have disputed. Vangelis himself called New-age music a style which "gave the opportunity for untalented people to make very boring music".
Here are some of the pieces of his, I love to listen the most to and which have shaped my emotional world and perceptions so much, particularly in the case of Blade Runner, one of my very first soundtrack CDs ever:

May he rest in peace and may his compositions keep humanity company beyond the end of time.

That's very sad :-( I love his music and was introduced to it by my mother. He did so much with his stay here on Earth. He truly made works of beauty.

Agreed - I hope his music persists into future generations just as Beethoven and Mozart have survived and are honoured even to this time.

I'm sure he will be remembered until the end.

He will be. Easily. That music won't go away.
I got nothing to say here.
