Fear Street

Post by Winter »

I've never been a huge fan of the horror genre but I have a healthy respect for it. It's a genre that, like the media of animation, often gets screwed over simply because it has the misfortune to exist and will get critized for every minor thing it does even if that the very thing being critiqued is something that would be praised if in any other film.

It's rare to find a horror film that is given high praise by critics so it's says a lot about a genre that is usually screwed over by critics give nothing but praise to a series that is basically a love letter to the genre.

Fear Street is honestly an interesting series to talk about because it's kind of an odd ball when it comes to it's origin. The series is a In Name Only Adaptation of the book series of the same name that makes major alterations from the original source material that it might as well be considered a different franchise altogether. Just as an example, the Goode family IS Good whereas in the show they are the villains behind everything. And yet most fans of the books and the writer of said books have been pretty supportive of the series, praising it's ideas and seeing it as a fresh take on a franchise many of them love.

Honestly I've never seen such support for a adaptation that changed so much with barely any fans causing a fuss over it. In fact in fan fiction many fans of the books include elements and characters from the show in their fics without turning it into a way to vent their frustration at the changes made which you'd expect to see.

As for the show itself I honestly really enjoy it, it's got mystery, romance, fun characters and I like how it tributes the horror genre with monsters clearly inspired by Jason, Ghostface and I think even Sam from Trick r Treat.

I personally like how the story keeps flashing back to the past in order to move the story forward before returning to the present day to wrap up the story. Mind you I did see the twist coming, that Sarah Fier was a victim and was on the side of the heroes (the show was trying a little to hard to make her seem like the villain) but I will admit that I was in tears at the end as it was such a well told story.

Predictable does not mean bad and as long as the characters are likable and the plot is fun I'm willing to just sit back and enjoy myself.

My only real gripe with the show is, and I admit this is a nitpick, Cindy and Alice's relationship is never stated to be romantic even though literally everyone who worked on it saw it as romantic. If you all agreed on it During Production why didn't you just say it in the show. I for one would am annoyed that the two never get a kiss or admit their feelings.

Yesterday I talked about my idea of a Saw Spin-off where Jigsaw has to justify his crimes to Saint Peter after his death so here's another fan fic idea of mine Cindy and Alice meeting in the afterlife as the devil tries to claim their souls only for Death to protect them and death being like the Doctor from Star Trek. I want it to be noted I don't make it a habit of posting my fan fic ideas on this site it's just this week has been kinda weird and I need to just talk about silly ideas to take my mind off things.

But yeah even with that I think this show was fantastic I hope it returns because I would like to see what comes next.

But for now let's prepare our homes and costumes as the Season of the Witch has begun.
