Babylon 5: In Memory of my Dad

My dad LOVED Babylon 5.

He bought or asked for every season and movie of the series up to and including every the Rangers movie. As soon as the B5 Tales Movie was out he had me get it right then and there and was interested in the B5 animated movie and was excited for the Blu-Ray for the series.

He loved Babylon 5 more then any other series and was always one he would look forward to re-watching more then any other series. As the Blu-Ray was the last gift I got him and I wanted to make a post that is nothing but love for this show.

So my only Christmas Wish from all of you is to post what you love about this show. I know we all love to debate about the ups and downs of any series that crosses our minds but in this instance I just want to talk about only the good things about this show in a tribute to my dad. Losing him so close to Christmas has really hurt me and my family and I want to try and feel good about this so please no debates or arguments this time I need a place to just talk about something he loved.

Going with a family connection: Susan Ivanova is one of my sister's favorite characters of all time. She's cosplayed as her a bunch of times (fun fact the young lady who made the costume does costumes at Disney World now) and frequently wears a single earring as a reference.

For my part her "right hand of vengeance" speech is one of my favorite things.

There are few shows that have aged as well as B5. I even liked Crusade although I also like Enterprise and SGU lol.

Babylon 5 is one of the most human shows I ever seen, which is one of the highest praises I can give to any Sci Fi show. If you wish for more detail, could write up how it's humanity is an immense strength as a show.

I sporadically watched Babylon 5 when it first aired. One of the reasons was because I knew through what I did watch and what I read on the internet (yes I was around during the early days of the internet), that I was missing things. But I did know about the rich history that the series was creating.

It was because of that when the series became available on DVD I bought them.

Everything about Babylon 5 brought me to love it. The characters specifically Molari and G'Kar. The ship designs. The history of the species in the series. But more importantly the overall story, with each episode whether or not it's a standalone that added to the whole story of the series.

Hands down one of the best written shows on TV. As a series, not just a Science Fiction series.

The episode about the destroying angel is as perfect as it is devestatingly timeless. Plague is an enemy we continue to face, and somehow we always go about it the wrong way.

I love G'kar's arc. I love the Orwellian stuff that remains applicable to this very day. I love how ageless this stuff is, because nothing ages quite as fast as the future.
