$25 million on an $80 million budget lol. And as ever, that doesn't take in reshoots or marketing or cinema cut so you have to double that at least.
Another female-led superhero movie failure so close to The Marvels. And no writer's strike to conveniently blame this one on either. In other news, Deadpool 3 fronted by Ryan and Hugh is one of the most watched trailers ever. My argument is being made for me really.
This is a boy's brand. Most successful superhero movies are male-centric or ensemble casts where men are allowed prominent roles. Captain Marvel 1 was helped out by the fact that it was tied to Infinity War and Endgame and even Disney are admitting that now folks.
Barbie is a girls brand. It knew it, you know it, and it made Scrooge McDuck money because it embraced that 110%. Funny how no one is bothered by calling it that though.

Deadpool and Barbie are good movies popular with people of all genders, while by all accounts Madame Webb is just generally shit which everyone expected from the first trailer. No kindergarten "blue is for boys pink is for girls" silliness required.

Yeah, I kinda wish they had the title character be play by an elderly actress.

It's mad too, as it's not like some of the best sci-fi action films, a genre which is even more blue coded than super-heroes, aren't the first Terminator and the first two Aliens films while are both led by women.hammerofglass wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2024 12:22 pmNo kindergarten "blue is for boys pink is for girls" silliness required.
If a film sucks it's the writing, the special effects, the acting, the editing, things like that, and usually all of above, and not at all to do with the genders involved.
The whole 'you can't criticise this film cause that'd be sexist' thing is an entirely separate issue caused by the interraction of internet discourse with massive media companies, and shouldn't be used to make you think that a film can't be good just cause the lead character happens to be a lady.

This was the same creative team who made Gods of Egypt and Morbius. It would be more surprising if it didn't crash and burn.
I honestly wonder if this is one of those "make a deliberate flop then book the tax write-off as revenue" schemes.

I would happily sacrifice this film for Coyote v Acme if I could.

Apparently that same creative team has made nothing but flops. Just those two are the big name ones.hammerofglass wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2024 7:42 pm This was the same creative team who made Gods of Egypt and Morbius. It would be more surprising if it didn't crash and burn.

From what I understand from people who watched it, the acting is good, the directing isnt good, the script isnt good and the SFX looks like it came from the 90's. Not only that but picking Madame Webb is just odd. Sony is just trying to create this Spider-Man multiverse series but they can't use Spider-Man.
I strongly suspect this movie sucks not because of some girl power woke agenda, girls suck boys rule bullshit, but because it just plain sucks. Nothing to with the genders of the characters in the movie.
I got nothing to say here.

I just noticed that SJ Clarkson directed the first two episodes of Jessica Jones and the first two episodes of the Defenders.
I thought the first two episodes of Jessica Jones were fantastic, while I will say that the first wo of The Defenders were paced rather adequately for what the series should have turned out to be.
