My main problem with Discovery (the ship) is less the tech... and more how BLUE it was. It just got to be so annoying that I felt like I was blinded by it. I never cared much for the tech because, to be honest... the 60's set HAD to be updated. I love the set but it cannot work in a serious show set now. Some of the tech I do... question, like the drones that fix the ship mid battle or the long range holograms, but hey, they aren't what I hate. It's the story.
The overall look of the interior did bother me but to me that's like saying the Enterprise-D was lit too bright and too flat. It's a minor quibble far far down on the list of things to complain about. But the reverse when it came to Generations I can actually understand. At times especially Ten Forward was too dimly lit.

I mean I think the Enterprise's exterior in SNW needs to be brightened a bit. Just seems to be too dark.

Going back to the Klingons. Another point of criticism is their ships in Season 1. They are not at recognizable as Klingon ships whereas despite their design, the Federation ships do look like Federation ships. My thing is that even if it is a reimagining of TOS Trek time frame, maybe you should make the Klingon ships at least resemble the 'old' Trek Klingon ships. Like those ugly Bird of Preys we saw could have been done better. If Discovery was set in a new universe with its own set of lore, like now the Klingons don't resemble Klingons and neither do their ships, then that is fine.

But consistency works best if you are going to sell us that Discovery really is set in Geneverse. Just update the Klingon makeup with the latest techniques and call it a day.

Like how that one Ferengi Worf beheaded in Picard's season 3 was. TNG era Ferengi had large ears but no visible ear holes. It was just painted dark. That new Ferengi has ear holes and the makeup is slightly updated. Not a fan of the facial hair but the makeup was well done. Took me a few takes figure out the differences.

But I suspect, Discovery was so soft on being what it was trying to be. Reboot, reimagining, or a update to TOS but still TOS.

It was the fan reaction to the Klingons that caused them to gain back hair in Season 2 and outside the Dark Federation in season 2 where we saw Martok's skull but Discovery Klingon, we don't see them again like that. Actually I think the only Klingon we have seen since then is Worf.

If you were to make Worf look like a Discovery Klingon, the nerd rage would be legendary. Only second to changing Spock's makeup.
I got nothing to say here.
