... As soon as I heard that line I instantly thought of Chuck's rant in Empok Nor from Deep Space 9 when the same line was used.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7mN70KFnFU

Only it's actually worse in AR because the idiot who says the line tells Rain, Character in this scene, to target Andy, the android, on purpose and says that stupid line "Don't worry, the safety is on."

This is honestly as stupid as that scene in Prometheus where that idiot went to pet an alien snake if not worse. These people in a dangerous and hostile situation and this moron tells someone to point the gun at one of the few survivors and clearly the most competent person here and to pull the trigger!

A few years ago I posted a review that compared and contrasted The Last Jedi against Dark Force Rising and in that review I mentioned that characters in Rian Johnson's films tend to be idiots and assholes. And as I said there that wasn't an criticism it was an observation as he makes it clear these characters are all idiots and jerks and for the most part that works for his films.

But with Fede Álvarez, he also tends to write films that are filled with idiots and assholes but in this case it IS a criticism because unlike Johnson who makes it clear everyone we're watching is an idiot Álvarez is trying to convince us the character's we're watching are actually really smart and likeable.

I haven't seen enough of the film to make a proper judgement but this scene really reinforces that mindset because this idiot is insisting to aim at someone they do not want to shoot with one of the dumbest lines ever conceived.

I don't know if the rest of the film will be this dumb, this could just be one moment and I will admit that certain parts do look great (the Zero G with the Acid Blood looks amazing if a little dumb) but this really doesn't fill me with confidence. So, far this feels like a very superficial attempt to recapture the magic of the first two films but is still going to be loaded with the idiot plot of the prequel films.

And once again, Alien vs. Predator proves to be a smarter film with characters being more sensible and making choices that aren't brain dead and borderline suicidal.

Man it's lovely being entirely free of a franchise. AvP for all it's faults ended up doing me a favour by giving me enlightenment that I genuinely did not care any more and no matter how bad things got this had no hold over me whatsoever. Alien for me these days is the first two films, the original 90s AvP novel which really should have been adapted as it was so dang good but alas it was not outside of ripping off a couple of moments that were just rubbish devoid of context, some of the 90s comics and that is it and I'm entirely okay with that state of affairs.

Man those comics were pretty off the rails in ways that was just fun. I vividly remember an Alien who smoked cigars (I think it was an android or something?) and he killed one corporate badguy by exhaling acidic cigar smoke into his face in a seriously metal visual.
