Let's be real, The Haunted Mansion has a shit track record when it comes to film adaptations. It's gotten 3, 2 have sucked and the other was okay but mostly thanks to the Muppets. I remember Guillermo del Toro was in talks to direct a second attempt at a film adaptation though I might be wrong on that but God I would have loved to have seen his version.
But back to the point of this post, you've been approached by Disney to write and direct yet another Haunted Mansion, the only rule is it can't be rated R but other then that you're given free reign of how to make this film, so how do you go about it?
Me personally I would make a Prequel focusing on the Ghost Host and use other parts of the Haunted Mansion's lore to build a story. Like in Magic Kingdom, (don't know if this is the case in other Disneyland parks) the gift shop located next to the ride is owned by Madame Leota, the crystal ball lady, and Big Thunder Mountain from Disneyland Paris which is tied into the backstory of DP's version of THM the Phantom Mansion.
Not sure about anything else, I'm not as passionate about this project as others but I do want to know what you all think? How would you go about making a movie version of one of the most iconic rides in Theme Park History?
Oh, and happy Halloween.

I'd make it a animated version about a family getting trapped in a silly mansion full of ghosts.
And...it'd be funny.
Mind you, the only thing wrong with the Gonzo version was it didn't have the whole Muppet cast.
