So, I just got back from Wicked Part 1 and it was a lot of fun, not sure what my overall feelings for the film are right now but it's a solid adaptation, good acting and directing.
There are of course changes which is unavoidable in any adaptation but one thing I couldn't help but notice was how much they turned up the gay in this film. Now it's been a LONG time since I watched the play but it I remember correctly Fiyero was straight and most of the people who were interested in him where women, and I mean more then just the two leading ladies. In the film, yeah he's totally bi and or pan and many dudes in this film fall for him HARD.
One thing I remember reading about a few years ago was a version of the play where the actors playing Elphaba and Glinda REALLY turned up the homoerotic subtext between the two characters, culminating in the two kissing at the end of the play, right at the end of For Good. And yes this was intend as them playing the relationship up as romantic.
Ever since the book Wicked, which I think implied that Glinda was a lesbian and in love with Elphaba, fans have been shipping these two, even more so then either girl with Fiyero (though his romance with both of them is still pretty popular). And that continues to be the case here because even people who've never seen the play and only know the film are going "Is anyone else getting a gay vibe here?"
So, the film is VERY comfortable with the characters being queer coded or outright queer, it has a massive queer following and at least one instance of the two lead characters kissing in a official play. Will we see the two kiss in the next film?
Do You Think Elphaba and Glinda Will Kiss in Wicked: For Good?

No.
It seems a very safe adaptation.
Queer baiting is sadly something Wicked is well known for,
