It also depends on which Bruce Wayne we are talking about of course. The George Clooney version in Batman and Robin was holding a fundraiser for the environment - back in the 1990s no less. He was doing it before it was cool.

BTW, ''the 1990s'' is what a lot of people miss out about that scene. I've heard a lot of people criticise him for being an out of touch billionaire when he criticises Poison Ivy wanting to stop cold turkey fossil fuels whilst conveniently forgetting that his argument was that we should PHASE OUT fossil fuels. You cannot just stop fossil fuels overnight, particularly back then. And y'know, the whole benefit gig that night kind of destroys the argument that he hates the environment.

No. You already made that arguement before and got laughed out of the room for it. Accept defeat and move on.

... What? Am I missing a joke, what's happening right now? Or is my dyslezia so bad that I can't even see words now?

Made it more obvious to what specifically I am referring to. Also: Happy New Year. 🤪

Bro, you didn't even read what Winter wrote
Science Fiction is a genre where anything can happen. Just make sure what happens is enjoyable for yourself and your audience.

Winter wrote: Mon Dec 30, 2024 6:17 amBut back to the idea that Superheroes are inherently fascist, this is nonsense. Putting aside the fact that many people who write this genre are usually on the left and not the right, even the ones who are on the right HATE Fascists and belittle an insult them just Kripke does, and often more successful then The Boys, at least as far as the original comics.

One of my issues with The Boys is an issue I have with a lot of similar stories, it is completely unaware of how pro-fascist it is. Fascism is violence and in The Boys violence is often as the one and only solution to any and all problems. One scene that's always stood out to me is when Homelander is blackmailed into leaving Butcher alone when Maeve shows that she has footage of him killing people.
I read the paragraphs after this and I agree, but this here is plainly put why these ideas are so outlandish. It's like people claiming red pill dynamics while people adjacent to their political stances are denying the authors citing trans identity issues as a source of inspiration for their own material.

I think though there is the critical issue that you touched upon in that there is a moralistic standard that is lacking in the MAGA superhero theory. That being said, the left often lionizes their own side of the fence, so you kind of have to pick your battles imho.
A world on fire.

No argument there, it's easy to paint everyone on the right as Pro-Fascist when the truth of the matter is most of them are regular people who support many of the same things the left does.

Another regular on the forum made the thread about Superhoes being inherently fascist.

If you believe in the idea the one political camp in the historically bipolar partisan spectrum is inherently right, and that small inward government is definitively good. Then you might have beliefs that are compatible between fascism, and that's mainly because people on the left deem your party to be adjacent to fascism. That doesn't mean though that you've just adopted superheroism the name of Fascism.

Yea. I'm beginning to see where this preposterous philosophical consideration is coming from!

Not to get into the inevitable argument but Fascism is inherently "Conservatism taken to the 11." It's literally just "The Far Right." You can definitely have Far Left authoritarianism but it's not fascist even if there's some similarities in "shoot people we don't like and dismiss democracy." My friends in Venezuela basically say they were the last ones to experience that in modern day from a government but it happened and is real. Fascism relies on there being conservative beliefs that they then take to crazy extremes.

To use the once noble Harry Potter franchise as an example rather than RL.

"The Ministry of Magic is not fascist. It is, however, something that prefers to keep things following tradition and coddles Old Money Pureblood families that are greatly influential behind the scenes. It has tendencies to be dismissive of systemic change and tolerates a lot of suspicion toward Muggles and Muggleborn among other foreigners. It also turns a blind eye to exploitation of magical beings like House Elves and the issues of cursed people like werewolves."

"The Death Eaters, by contrast, are full on reactionaries who absolutely are dominated by Old Money Pureblood families even if they also recruit from people who don't qualify like Snape and Voldemort himself. They view the Ministry as cowards and recruit heavily from people who believe in blood purity, muggle hatred, and exploitation of magical beings."

Growing up in Kentucky, I take the view of, "Everyone in my state is pretty conservative but I think our leadership is hopelessly corrupt and racist. There's also some guys in the woods who are building stockpiles of guns for the race war they think is inevitable."
