FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER thought: Part of the problem is that while Karli's cause is justified, the show increasingly makes it clear she's just kind of a scumbag. Bullying her fellows into a bunch of senseless violence with no real plan. Which is what no one really expected from the character.
Whereas Walker turns out to have been fundamentally a good man while working for the mass deportation people who clearly have no plan for helping the millions of people either in camps or about to lose their homes (and can't even run food and medicine to the camps properly).

Re: Captain America: Brave New World
Here's MY beef with Karli. What IS her plan. No, really, what it is. Pretend half the earth didn't just... come back? Let's use an analogy.
A storm hits an island, and it's a TERRIBLE storm. Half the people escape, the other half can't. The island has no one for a year, and those people left suffer, but start building their homes. After a year, the people who left finally return, wanting to be home... and the people on the island refuse to let them come back.
It's not a perfect analogy, but it gives something to Karli, because her actual motives and plans are odd. She doesn't want to lose her home... but what about the homeless people? What is HER opinion of them? We don't know... cause of covid.
Cause she did have a plan in the OG version before Covid... viral attacks to kill those who came back, it's why she stole vaccines. So they aren't immune to diseases that were made after the blip, and knew they could be killed by her virus while leaving those who weren't blipped fine. In the actual events, her vaccine raids... make no sense.

Science Fiction is a genre where anything can happen. Just make sure what happens is enjoyable for yourself and your audience.

I get Karli's plan actually because it's far more low key but still works. Karli wants to kill enough people that the GRC backs down and doesn't deport everyone currently in camps. It's a STUPID PLAN because all it's doing is letting the Flagsmashers be labeled terrorists. It's also one she's gradually driven to because her current level of violence isn't working.Nobody700 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 1:50 pm Here's MY beef with Karli. What IS her plan. Hence her plan to kill Captain America and symbolically blah blah.
The problem is that it just radicalizes John.
She's got NO social media game.

As far as allegory I think the characters work towards a both sides kind of argument where you can see radicals from both sides using the same kind of arguments for the situation at hand.CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 3:05 am FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER thought: Part of the problem is that while Karli's cause is justified, the show increasingly makes it clear she's just kind of a scumbag. When the show first came out I could see it as a take on reactionary nationalists, but their situation is a bit more critical and worthy of progressive oversight.
Yeah you could say Walker tries to administer a "silver bullet" approach to the matter but reliably puts too much on his plate when taking on the shield.Whereas Walker turns out to have been fundamentally a good man while working for the mass deportation people who clearly have no plan for helping the millions of people either in camps or about to lose their homes (and can't even run food and medicine to the camps properly).
A world on fire.
