Pfft! Everyone knows that TOS wasn't in B&B's head canon.

Please Discovery, don't have them meeting races they explicitly didn't know yet like Enterprise did. As much as I love the Dominion, they don't need to meet them in the 23rd century!

Why not just have a post-Voyager series?
Hell, do a loose adaptation of the Star Trek Online storyline. Its perfect serviceable.

My problem with overtly political shows is that it encourages bad writing and one-dimensional characters (like the Ferengi, especially early Ferengi). Sometimes Trump might seem like a one-dimensional character, but keep that out of my fiction please.
A better way to do things, in my opinion, is to explore the philosophical and socio-political issues that underlie whatever specific political debate is going on currently. An episode doing that can be timeless. In other words, I'd rather have a theme critiquing nationalism, fascism, communism, capitalism, or whatever than I would an allegory where this character specifically represents a certain real person.
Right now though, I'm just waiting for a sign that Discovery is doing anything right.
