Wow. Whoever it is that's forcing you to watch this show must be a real bastard!

I think it's pretty common for situations like this. If it makes you horrible, you have a lot of company.
I loved Stargate SG-1, enjoyed Atlantis, and thought Stargate Universe was trying way too hard to be dark and gritty. When I heard SGU crashed and burned, I admit I felt a little satisfaction. I don't feel particularly proud of that, but when you see a franchise you love turned into something you think a cat would bury in sand, it's natural to blame the people making that change, and to be somewhat happy if it doesn't bring them success. I think it's emotional vindication of a sort.
When I talk to people who loved SGU, I'm respectful, and I never tried to convince people not to watch it while it was on. Their tastes are as legitimate as mine.

I don't want Discovery to fail, I want it to succeed. I also need it to be good. Right now, I can't say I think it was very good, and I'd rather it fail as a bad show than succeed as a bad show, because that sends the wrong messages.
Ideally, it would succeed as a good show. I'm hoping that the recent news ousting the people responsible for last season will lead to improvements similar to those that made TNG into the success it became. Time will tell.

They brought in Thrawn, but not Mara Jade. They really need to stop cherry-picking Legends elements to put into the new canon if they wanna do their own fresh thing. And the Vong remain absent. The Vong were one of my favorite Legends races. And then they sneer at the fans for getting upset that Mara Jade was not brought back. "You got Thrawn!" they cry. It's like they can't understand why it upsets the die-hard fans. It's disregarding Legends into a no-man's land non-canon status. By throwing in Legends easter eggs, it's still tying itself to Legends to a degree, but it won't commit all the way. I just want the Lucasfilm Story Group to redeclare Legends an "alternate but still canon continuity." I mean, really! What's gonna happen to the Vong? And other Legends elements that haven't appeared yet? And now I hear rumors they are remaking the KOTOR games. WHY?! Why not just make the originals canon? To sell money... but if it's too close to the original games, it will be obvious it's a cash-grab, and piss people off. If it's too different, well, then it just reminds people what they did to Legends, and they still get pissed off! And the new writers just dismiss Legends with comments like, "Go write fanfiction." Really, I don't like the attitude. At all. Legends deserves better. Star Wars as it stands now might not be where it is if not for Legends.unknownsample wrote: ↑Fri Jun 15, 2018 6:23 pmLike bringing Thrawn into Rebels?Yukaphile wrote: ↑Fri Jun 15, 2018 3:42 pm That's not a good example, lol, since I'm quite dissatisfied with Disney and Lucasfilm's approach to Star Wars as well as Trek. They don't go far enough to commit to either direction. They throw in these little Legends references into the new, so-called "respectable" canon that don't amount to much more than easter eggs, so they're still tying themselves to Legends to some degree to appease the old Legends fanboys, and yet if that's the case, why not make ALL of Legends a separate but "still canon" continuity instead of shoving it off into a vague, undefined no-man's limbo of canon status? Decades of world-building, and they act like tyrants deciding what "the best elements" of Legends are to cherry-pick and add to the new EU, which is getting trashed by the new movies, as far as I can tell. It's just completely disregarding the creativity and imagination of other people. I mean, if they wanted to do something new, don't include Legends at all. Otherwise, you're just gonna piss off the hardcore fans like me.

I've been on the edge of locking down these threads because I've been sensing them edging towards a flame war but they have thus far managed to avoid it.
If it crosses a line, I'm going to hand out official warnings to those I deem responsible and lock these down.
Thread ends here. Cut along dotted line.

Hi.
My name is UnknownSample and I cannot understand simple requests which means I now have to accept the clearly explained and defined consequences for my actions.
As such I have earned myself a warning, the deletion of the meaningless post trying to justify my stupid actions, a one day ban, plus a topic lock from a Grumpy moderation that doesn't want to put up with my shit.
