Do you think we will EVER get a post voyager star trek again. Ever since the last episode of voyager we haven't seen much of the post dominion war alpha quadrant.
Enterprise was a flop over all (it was getting better but it was already tainted) and discovery is ok so far we will see what develops but im tired of these looks back and would like progression and see something new and i wanted to ask what other people though we should see in the future of star trek beyond voyager.
Star trek beyond voyager
Re: Star trek beyond voyager
I like the undeveloped Foundation-esque idea, it turns the normally drama killing utopianism into a source of drama:

A new crew in 2394, stardate 71600.4? You might as well wish for new Firefly or Farscape. There was an uptick in Star-studded webfilms that might have filled the gap, but Paramount killed those off just when they were set to bloom.
Something like "Federation" that is set in the more distant future? Maybe. If you think Voyager in particular should stay canon, which establishes the eventuality of time cops to conform history to a fixed narrative, then there's a span in there between 2450 and 2700 where you could set a new show...

I hope so, but right now the only game in town seems to be shows-as-reference nostalgia, or various levels of dystopia. Neither of those are suitable for Star Trek or particularly interest me in general.
Re: Star trek beyond voyager
You forgot Nemes- no, wait, you're right, absolutely no canon Star Trek beyond the end of Voyager.
Personally, I reckon Discovery would've been about five times better (and made about twenty times more sense) if it was set around 2395-2405. Have the Klingons be aggressive following the destruction of Romulus (which oddly ties in with All Good Things), replace 'spore drive' with 'transwarp', Sarek with Saavik (or hell, even Tuvok), Harry Mudd with Brunt or someone and the mirror universe with a different mirror universe where the chain of power doesn't go Mirror!Hoshi<Mirror!Spock<Mirror!Kira<Mirror!Worf<Rom.
tl;dr, I would absolutely kill for a post-Voyager series. But it won't be made as long as everyone in charge of Star Trek has this hard-on for the original series era.
Re: Star trek beyond voyager
I don't even get it. The thirty-year rule for nostalgia means that we should be getting people who are obsessed with TNG making things right now by default, even if I hate the nostalgia-driven reboots in general. And with what I've read coming from people in retail who sell the models and such, the TNG-era merchandise is still a better seller than TOS and JJ-Trek, so there's even that from the business sense. It's just weird that someone seems to have decided where the fan nostalgia is (or maybe it's just a situation where everyone thinks someone else decided and no one questions it), and keeps. going. back. to. TOS. regardless of anything else. And I love TOS! But I also like Trek as a franchise (and more importantly, the universe it has built), and it's not going to survive if it can't grow. ENT, JJ-Trek, and Discovery are three attempts in a row to feed on itself, and that just isn't a healthy path forward.

Hmm. I remember one of the Trek authors saying on Trekbbs that TOS was still easily the biggest seller, but I don't recall if he was referring to novels, merchandise, or both. Anecdotally, just from what I see in stores and online, I feel like TOS still has an overshadowing presence over the franchise when it comes to merchandise. If I search "Star Trek merchandise" on Amazon, the top items are mostly still TOS stuff.Deledrius wrote: ↑Fri Jul 20, 2018 11:04 pmI don't even get it. I don't think it has anything to do with the powers that be themselves preferring TOS. At least, not directly. I think the truth of the matter is that TOS entered the public consciousness in a way that none of the shows managed. TNG could have as many fans as TOS (I really have no idea, except that those two are easily the most popular shows), but TOS has had the added benefit of years of parodies and homages and copycats. That's created a pop culture presence that gives the image of the show extra longevity. So going back to that era is all about drawing in as much general audience/casual fan attention as they can with the imagery and characters that are the most familiar to them.
To put it more succinctly, going back to the big first thing has been in vogue in Hollywood for years, and Star Trek is just another part of that. In the eras of sequels and reboots, marketing leads to the powers that be choosing to go along with what the audience is already familiar with, at least by reputation. Largely the same thing has happened with Star Wars with their reboot of the Rebellion versus Empire dynamic.
Finally, I do think it kind of sucks for fans who would love to see something new. Honestly, I think most TOS fans would have vastly preferred exploring new ground- I know I would have. The same goes for Star Wars, but money talks.
The owls are not what they seem.

I don't think we'll be seeing anything post Voyager for a while and if season 2 of Discovery and the next Trek movie bombs I think it will be a even longer before we see anything post Voyager even if we do get a new Trek series unrelated to The Kelvin Timeline or Discovery it will most likely be yet another Prequel. The reason I think this is because of something Chuck said in one of his B5 reviews in regards to season 5 of B5 that being the odd paradox when anyone talks about continuing a story, "I want to see what happens next, but I know it can't live up to what I already saw."
I think that's why whenever a big series gets some sort of continuation it's almost always a Prequel, Watchmen, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Harry Potter are some of the most popular of all time and yet the most notable works in these series all are Prequels. Sure they do have sequels like the Thrawn Trilogy, the Disney Era Trilogy, The Cursed Child and the current Doomsday arc from DC but some of these are either set in other media like Theater or Literature or were set many Many years after the original.
Hell look at Star Trek itself with the Sequel to the original series, The Motionless Picture. There is literally a decade between the last episode of the Original series and the first movie in the series and a big part of that, as Chuck pointed out in his review of the movie, was every one trying to figure out what the best story was to continue to adventure of the crew of the Star Ship Enterprise.
So, yeah, if there ever is a film or TV Series that is set after the events of the Dominion War I don't think we're going to see it for a while now. Maybe if Dis' second season is a real winner along with the next Trek film but even then it still might be a while. Personally I do really want to see a what's happened after Voy, DS9 and Nemesis as there are a tone of questions left unanswered like, Did Sisko ever return, what is going on with the Romulans, what's Kirk's reaction to learning that one of his best friends after he tried and failed to save Romulus and what has happened to the Klingon Empire after Martok became Emperor?
I would love to see these stories told and hopefully one day we''ll see them.

One thing kirk is dead except in the shattnerverse which is his monument to his own ego i hate to say it but the stories are more like ego trips a lot like what chuck said he planned for star trek vWinter wrote: ↑Sat Jul 21, 2018 7:40 am I don't think we'll be seeing anything post Voyager for a while and if season 2 of Discovery and the next Trek movie bombs I think it will be a even longer before we see anything post Voyager even if we do get a new Trek series unrelated to The Kelvin Timeline or Discovery it will most likely be yet another Prequel. also i would like to see all of that i get resolved, also here is something else i don't really like some of the novels ive tried getting into them but only a few where any good and a lot of them are fairly bad.
Re: Star trek beyond voyager
don't remind me about the Shittnerverse, i actually read those back when i was younger and wanted more star trek after the main series ended but all the ones i read where JUST SO BAD. Except reunion that one was ok. But the shittnerverse is him getting deaged by nanites and having constant sex.
The other issue is a lot of time they don't know how to describe technology its usually just a box or something that has wires of all things.
However on August 4 2018 Captain Picard himself says hes coming BACK. Im happy.
