Jordan Peele's The Twilight Zone

Post by ProfessorDetective »

So, this premiered during the Super Bowl (I bet SOMEONE thought their cable was cutting out).

Yep, the guy behind 'Get Out' has been given the reins of yet another attempt to revive The Twilight Zone. And, going by this trailer... I have high hopes. He seems to have the tone down, but this IS just a teaser. We'll see in April.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this? High hopes? Low Hopes? Think that it coming out on April 1st is VERY appropriate for this complete joke of an idea? Wish it wasn't exclusive to CBS All Access?

Can't wait. Jordan Peele is proving himself a master of his craft, and the time is right for the Twilight Zone to return.

The nice thing about The Twilight Zone being an anthology series is that when they attempt to revive it there is no real concern about it hurting previous incarnations. There's no canon to follow, a bad series is easily forgotten while the original is still remembered as THE Twilight Zone. That's a lot less baggage than a certain series spanning decades with an attempted revival that is also hidden in All Access.

Well, I'm not paying for All Access for Trek, I'm not paying to see this. I will pick up a free week in April to watch a few episodes of Discovery and catch the finale, so I will give this a watch during that time. But the credit card stays firmly in my wallet.

Going from humor to horror is a bit of an odd career trajectory, but Peele is making it work, so I can't complain.

Cautiously optimistic. Absolutely love the original and Peele seems like a great choice to try to capture the spirit of it.

Let's have a pool going for inevitable remakes. Dibs on something on the wing.

I agree with that. At the same time, reviving The Twilight Zone in particular doesn't make a lot of sense from a creative standpoint. There have been a lot of similar anthology series over the years, and even currently Black Mirror has drawn a good number of comparisons to The Twilight Zone. The intro and closing narration are iconic, but that's all about Rod Serling. Unless they plan on remaking episodes, which usually doesn't work out well. From a financial/marketing perspective, of course a remake does make sense.

So yeah, they can't really damage the reputation of what was maybe the best anthology program of all time, and I guess I'm glad that the original isn't losing it's cultural relevance after 50 years, but taking the name of the program and maybe some aesthetics doesn't do much to make me more excited for it. Peele's association helps, but it's still wait and see for me.

For the record, they ARE planning at least ONE remake of an old story: 'Nightmare at 20,000 Feet'. They're calling it 'Nightmare at 30,000 Feet' and have Adam Scott of 'Parks and Rec' fame attached as the lead. I wonder how they'll keep him from just taking a picture of the monster with his phone. https://consequenceofsound.net/2018/10/ ... dam-scott/

And BridgeConsoleMasher already wins the pool. Not that I would have bet against him on that one.

The problem is that Black Mirror is a shitty shit show for mouth-breathing pseudointellectuals.
