Why do you think that?

Because narratively, it fits more with the Kelvinverse. So you wouldn't have people who cherish TOS, TNG, and DS9 screaming that this is not our Star Trek. Because it isn't. It's more in line with the reboot.

It most definitely would have been canceled long before it reached the fourth or fifth season. Kurzman is as toxic to STD as they were to TNG.
If it means anything, the third season is getting a new showrunner Michelle Paradise. At the very least, I look forward to how she'll steer this series in the next season.
They should just be honest and say it's a Kelvin Timeline show. It's a Kelvin Timeline show in everything but name, because it's a Prime Universe show in name only.
This show wouldn't fit in with the Kelvin timeline for the simple reason that the Enterprise in DISCOVERY has already been in service for over a decade, with Pike having served as captain for at least three to four years. The Enterprise in the 2009 film was on its maiden voyage under Pike.

Kelvinverse Starfleet values = Prime Timeline Starfleet values.

@Makeshift Pylon I'm still skeptical because there is still a certain degree of corporatizing to the show that wasn't present in decades past, and Kurtzman isn't pulling back completely, so... I doubt it. Even if so, it doesn't justify starting out as a Kelvin Timeline show and then morphing into a Prime Timeline show later on. Like all the continuity errors. They are utterly appalling.

@Slash Gallagher It's not that. It's stupid things like making Mirror Universe characters hyper-sensitive to light for no discernible reason. I could buy that, in the Kelvin Universe, but not the Prime Universe.

Except it doesn't fit Kelvin at all. Wouldn't it make more sense if it's just its own universe separate from Prime and Kelvin? Why does it only have to be one or the other?

I would accept that.

Then use your head-canon to make it that way. Give you less of a headache trying to fit it in with other universes when it's its own thing.
