Captain Marvel: The MCU's First Failure?
Re: Captain Marvel: The MCU's First Failure?
What I still don't get is how the OP managed to misspell "Thor: the Dark World" so badly.

..What mirror universe?

It was 1977, US demographics were predominantly white. nobody believed in the movie, it was not expected to be watched globally.Makeshift Python wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 6:42 pm “A long time ago in a galaxy far far away... it was mostly about white people.”

I am sure if we put you into a time machine you can do better...
I don't think a movie about space wizards owed anything to Jews, blacks, Amkerican WW2 POW's etc...

Calling me names does not get you points and begging the mods for my ban won't work here so make an argument.

Why should any of us, if we all believe in some abstract ideal of diversity (whatever your vision of that might be), pay any heed to people who consider talking about diversity bad optics? I just don't know how to express this other than putting it in plain words:Slash Gallagher wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 5:49 pmNo i am not a child molester.MixedDrops wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 5:45 pm Implicit in the notion that you think casting for diversity and casting for talent are somehow opposed to each other is that you think white actors are always more talented than other ones.
They are not opposed but it's terrible optics and not a great idea in general.
"Diversity is great, just never talk about it."
When you really get down to it that's basically what's being advocated here. This is just what I don't get. Okay, you'd be right that some people get outraged about it...but why should we act as if their outrage is in any way justified or should be acknowledged?
George Miller talked about his experience working with the writer of the Vagina Monologues and how he couldn't help but identify as a feminist after talking to her while working on Fury Road. Explain how what Disney has done/does is any more offensive to your sensibilities?Admiral X wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 5:53 pm The only reason anyone gave half a crap about the "diversity casting" is because of the people behind the movies crowing about it. If they'd just done it and not said anything, the only people to complain about it would be like how all the "outrage" over Fury Road was just one guy whining about it on his blog. But since Disney is about making money, they are marketing their "wokeness" because they are convinced that will make them money, or at the very least help them to avoid backlash like the GitS movie suffered.
